The FC Barcelona stands out as the great dream of Yassir Zabiri, a 21-year-old Moroccan forward who has scored five goals in the first five matches of LaLiga with Racing. His breakthrough places him among the names to watch in terms of the FC Barcelona transfer market, although there is currently no evidence of contacts between the clubs.
Zabiri belongs to Stade Rennes, which loaned him to Racing de Santander until June 30, 2027. His contract with the French club extends until 2029, so any possible future move would have to go through the club that owns his rights.
Yassir Zabiri scores five goals in five matches
The start of the season for Yassir Zabiri has boosted his prominence in La Liga. The forward reached five goals this Saturday after scoring a brace in Racing's 2-1 victory against Deportivo Alavés at El Sardinero.
Both goals came after the Vitorian team took the lead. Zabiri equalized before halftime and scored again in the second half to complete the comeback for the team led by José Alberto López.
His offensive production already fulfills half of the goal he publicly set when he arrived in Santander: to reach at least 10 goals in LaLiga. The forward had also previously scored a hat-trick against Elche, a performance that allowed him to make a name for himself in La Liga.
Racing added the attacker during the last summer through a loan from Rennes. The French club had signed him months earlier after his performance with Morocco in the 2025 U-20 World Cup, where he scored five goals, won the championship, and received the Silver Ball.
FC Barcelona holds a special place for Zabiri
Zabiri's link with FC Barcelona currently stems from the admiration of the player himself. The Moroccan admitted during his presentation with Racing that Lionel Messi is his main role model and that he also followed Luis Suárez particularly during his time as a Barcelona forward.
This personal connection does not imply ongoing negotiations. FC Barcelona has not made any known moves so far to try to sign him, and the player remains focused on his season with Racing.
His arrival in Santander was not immediate either. Rennes considered alternatives during the summer such as Olympique de Marseille and Venezia, but Zabiri prioritized competing in Spain and ultimately accepted the proposal from the Cantabrian team.
The next step will be to see if he maintains his scoring pace in the coming months. With five goals in five matches, a contract with Rennes until 2029, and a full season ahead in Santander, Zabiri has room to increase his value and attract new suitors. If FC Barcelona eventually joins that race, they will have to negotiate directly with the French club.
