Martín Zubimendi is very close to starting a new stage in his sports career. The midfielder from Real Sociedad has practically everything set to become a new player for Arsenal. As AS has learned, the Spanish international has already signed his contract with the London club, and only needs to pass the medical examination, scheduled in the next few hours, for the operation to be official.
The English club has already prepared all the details to announce the midfielder as their new reinforcement. Zubimendi's arrival responds to a specific wish of Mikel Arteta, who has insisted to the board on his signing. The Spanish coach sees in the player from San Sebastián the perfect anchor for his scheme and an ideal replacement for Jorginho, who is on track to join Flamengo.
His release clause will be paid in full
Arsenal will pay the €60 million corresponding to the player's release clause, who was also sought after by clubs like Real Madrid. However, the insistence of the London team and the sports project led by Arteta have been key to convincing the footballer.
At 26 years old, Zubimendi will embark on his first adventure outside of Spain just before joining the Spanish National Team training camp to prepare for the Nations League Final Four. At Arsenal, he will have to compete for a spot with Thomas Partey, whose renewal is still uncertain, but whom Arteta wants to continue counting on as an important piece of the team.
