Real Sociedad is experiencing days of restlessness and confusion after the departure of Imanol Alguacil was confirmed at the end of the season. The coach from Orio, a beloved figure and symbol of a period of stability, has chosen to step aside after a somewhat irregular year in LaLiga and European competitions. Only the good campaign in the Copa del Rey, where the txuri-urdin reached the semifinals, served as a balm to fans who expected much more. Imanol's goodbye has left a deep mark and has sparked a debate about the direction the club will take.

Disappointment in the stands of Anoeta

With his departure, high-profile names began to circulate that excited the stands: Julen Lopetegui, with his international experience; Jagoba Arrasate, familiar with the club and Basque football; or even Xabi Alonso, an iconic figure with a growing reputation in the coaching world. Expectations were high, fueled by the hope that the change would bring a new competitive push. However, the board made an unexpected decision: to bet on Sergio Francisco, the current coach of Sanse, as the new head coach of the first team.

This move has generated a wave of skepticism among supporters. Many believe that the club's decision shows a lack of ambition, especially after a season that called for a clear response. Although Francisco has done commendable work with the reserve team, his promotion to the first team's bench has not been met with enthusiasm. Social media has been filled with criticisms and doubts about his ability to lead a top-level project in an organization aiming to establish itself in the elite.

Fans, hurt by the departure of a reference like Imanol and surprised by a choice they see as continuity and risky, feel that the club has missed the chance to inspire with a new cycle. Hope now rests on Sergio Francisco to reverse that sentiment from day one.
