Real Betis Rejects First Offer for Deossa

Nelson Deossa is getting closer to leaving Real Betis after a season far from expectations. The Colombian midfielder arrived at Heliópolis as a significant bet, with a reputation as a differentiating player following his time in Mexico, but his first year in Europe has raised more doubts than certainties.

The Verdiblanco club has already put him on the way out and is looking to recover a good part of the investment made last summer. Flamengo and River Plate are following his steps, although the first Brazilian proposal, close to eight million euros, has been rejected because Betis does not want to accept less than ten.

A bet that went wrong

Deossa's signing generated enthusiasm at Real Betis. The Colombian had stood out with Monterrey and arrived in LaLiga as a powerful midfielder with versatility, a good strike, and the ability to break lines from behind.

The sports management believed he could bring a different profile to Manuel Pellegrini's midfield. Betis needed legs, energy, and a player capable of contributing with arrivals from deep. On paper, Deossa possessed many of those qualities.

The reality, however, has been very different. His adaptation to European football has not been easy, and the player never managed to establish himself as a significant piece within the team. He had sporadic appearances, but his role in the rotation was less than expected.

Muscle problems also hindered his progress. Every time he seemed to have an opportunity to get into the dynamics, some physical or off-field setback ended up keeping him away from the necessary continuity. In a demanding team with competition in midfield, that lack of regularity proved decisive.

Flamengo and River moving for the Colombian

The South American market has been the first to show strength. Flamengo and River Plate are closely monitoring the situation of the Colombian, aware that Betis is willing to negotiate his departure if a suitable offer arrives.

The Brazilian club has already made an initial offer of eight million euros, but the Verdiblanco response has been negative. In Heliópolis, they believe that figure falls short and are not willing to close the deal for less than ten million.

River Plate is also attentive. The Argentine team is looking to strengthen its midfield and sees in Deossa an interesting profile for his physicality, scoring ability, and international experience. Furthermore, his previous stint in South American football facilitates the reading of a potential adaptation.

For Deossa, returning to the American continent could be a way to regain confidence. In a more familiar environment and with greater room to become a protagonist again, the Colombian would have the opportunity to revive a career that has stalled in Seville.

The player still has value. His poor season at Betis has reduced his worth, but it has not erased what he showed before coming to Spain. Therefore, both Flamengo and River believe he can be a recoverable bet.

Betis wants to secure a clean exit

Betis' goal is clear: to recover as much as possible and free up space in the squad. The club needs to reshape its midfield and cannot afford to keep a player who does not fit into the coach's main plans.

The minimum figure of ten million responds to the need to protect the investment. Betis knows that it will hardly make a profit with Deossa, but wants to avoid a significant loss after just one season.

Furthermore, his departure would help free up payroll and an important slot within a squad that will face a demanding season. With the Champions League on the horizon, Pellegrini wants proven players ready to deliver immediate results.

Deossa's case is an example of a signing that never quite fit in. He arrived with high expectations, but his time in LaLiga outstripped him in too many instances.
