Nico Williams is getting closer to wearing the Barcelona jersey. The Athletic Club winger has prioritized the interest of the Catalan team over other offers, knocking Bayern Munich out of the race for his signing, as they were also closely monitoring the Spanish international. His talent, flair, and youth make him an ideal profile to bolster Barça's attack, which is seeking speed and imbalance on the wing for the upcoming season.
Nico Williams, getting closer to Barcelona
The Basque club has been clear from the start: the player will not leave for less than his release clause amount. The €58 million stipulated in his contract has become the main obstacle to closing the deal, although Barça's sports management is already working on the details to assume that amount and facilitate his arrival this summer.
At Can Barça, Nico is seen as a player who can contribute both present and future in equal measure. His performance at San Mamés has been consistent, and his ability to adapt to different attacking systems adds extra value to his profile. Moreover, his preference for joining Barcelona has been well received at the club, where they believe his decision could help expedite the final negotiations with Athletic.
Although Bayern has been ruled out, the deal is not closed. Barcelona, constrained by its delicate financial situation, needs to maneuver precisely to face an operation of this magnitude. Meanwhile, in Bilbao, they are already assuming that the young talent could bid farewell in the coming weeks, provided that the clause is paid and the player takes the definitive step towards his new destination.
