Gonzalo Plata, on the verge of joining Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad has initiated contacts with the environment of Gonzalo Plata, a 25-year-old winger from Flamengo, as reported by Diario AS. This is the new request from Matarazzo.

The sports management led by Erik Bretos considers the Ecuadorian international as a top alternative for the right winger position in this final stage of the summer transfer market, taking advantage of the fact that the Brazilian club has reduced its asking price to 10 million euros (12 million dollars).

The economic conditions set by Flamengo for the departure of Gonzalo Plata

Flamengo demands 10 million euros for Plata's direct transfer or through a loan with an obligation to buy in this summer market. This amount represents a reduction from the 22 million euros requested in June 2026, allowing the Rio de Janeiro club to recover the 4 million euros paid to Qatari club Al Sadd in the past.

The 25-year-old forward scored 5 goals and provided 9 assists in 50 matches during the previous season in Brazil, winning the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirão. In the current season, he has scored 2 goals and given 3 assists in 30 matches under the guidance of Leonardo Jardim, having lost his undisputed starter status in the lineup.

Gonzalo Plata's role in Real Sociedad's planning

Real Sociedad has sufficient financial liquidity to proceed with the outright purchase of the player if negotiations between boards progress in the coming days. The Donostiarra sports committee previously explored the situation of the winger in Roberto Olabe's era, reactivating the efforts after confirming the player's willingness to return to Spain.

Bretos places Plata on the shortlist to strengthen the attacking front if the club's priority option doesn't materialize before the market closes. The Ecuadorian's versatility in attacking space meets the tactical demands of the Guipuzcoan team to face the start of LaLiga.

Real Sociedad executives will await the resolution of their main plan before submitting the formal offer of 10 million euros to Flamengo. If the preferred option is not sealed before August 25, 2026, the Basque board will formalize the proposal for Plata to conclude his contract and facilitate his immediate incorporation.
