Atlético de Madrid's Secret Weapon to Strengthen Their Defense

Atletico Madrid is currently in search of a new defensive signing and has set its sights on Christian Mosquera, a young prospect from Valencia, to strengthen their backline. Following the acquisition of Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad for a fee of 34.5 million euros plus add-ons, Diego Pablo Simeone's team continues working to solidify their defense.

Initially, the Red and Whites had shown a keen interest in David Hancko from Feyenoord. However, the financial demands of the Dutch club, which asked for 35 million euros, have led Atletico to explore other options. Among the considered alternatives, Christian Mosquera's name has emerged as a viable possibility.

Mosquera, a new option for Atletico Madrid's defense

The 20-year-old defender has been a target of interest for Atletico since the beginning of the transfer market. According to Matteo Moretto in Fabrizio Romano's Daily Briefing, the Madrid club made a second inquiry about Mosquera recently. However, Valencia's response was clear: they have no intention of letting the player go for at least another season.

Valencia renewed Mosquera's contract last season, including a release clause ranging from 80 to 100 million euros. This clause provides the club with some assurance regarding the player's future, although historically they have shown willingness to negotiate in the transfer market, as seen with other young talents like Javi Guerra.

With the transfer window still open, Atletico Madrid continues to assess their options to strengthen their defense. Signing Mosquera would be a long-term investment due to his potential and youth. Meanwhile, the Red and Whites must decide whether to persist in their interest in Valencia's promising defender or explore other alternatives in the market.
