Martin Baturina, a 23-year-old Croatian midfielder, has been identified as a possible future signing for Real Madrid by former international player Mate Bilic, who believes that his profile could fit well at the Spanish club. The player is currently under contract with Como until June 2030 and is competing this season in the Champions League.

Martin Baturina Thrives at Como under Cesc Fàbregas

Bilic's assessment comes during the October 2026 international break, after Baturina started his second season in Italy with a significant role. The Croatian has played in 5 Serie A matches for Como, contributing 2 goals and 1 assist in 271 minutes.

In the Champions League, Baturina also made an impact in his continental debut with Como. Against RB Leipzig on September 10, he played 64 minutes, scored a goal, and provided an assist in Como's 4-1 victory.

Bilic specifically highlighted characteristics related to Baturina's style of play, envisioning him at Real Madrid, while also noting a distinction from Luka Modric. The former Croatian player believes that Baturina possesses mobility, ball circulation skills, and a tendency to seek vertical plays.

Working with Cesc Fàbregas has also been identified as a factor in Baturina's development. Baturina joined Como in July 2025 from Dinamo Zagreb and signed a contract until 2030.

Real Madrid: a Possibility, but No Ongoing Negotiations

The current situation does not indicate any contact between Real Madrid and Como regarding Baturina. Bilic's comments serve as an evaluation of the player's potential destination, while the midfielder remains tied to a long-term contract with the Italian club.

Como paid €17 million fixed, with an additional €5 million in variables, to secure Baturina's services in 2025. This deal made the Croatian the most expensive signing in Como's history at that time and bound the player until June 2030.

His market value has also fluctuated since that transfer. FotMob currently values him at €17.5 million, while another estimate published in 2026 placed it at €31 million in May. These are external evaluations, and Como has not officially disclosed a market figure or release clause.

Mate Bilic Paves the Way for Madrid

The comparison with Modric also considers a temporal context: Baturina belongs to a 23-year-old generation, while the legendary Croatian midfielder is no longer part of Real Madrid's project. Bilic isn't proposing a specific deal but suggesting the possibility of the player eventually moving to a top club.

The next step will be Baturina's progression with Como throughout the season. With a contract until 2030, participation in the Champions League, and 3 goals and 2 assists in Serie A and European competition, any future interest from Real Madrid would have to initiate through negotiations with the Italian club rather than a prearranged immediate departure.
